A small and scenic Turkish town, Bodrum is an excellent choice for holidaymakers hoping to enjoy a peaceful yet inspiring break.  But don’t be tricked into thinking that this coastal spot is sleepy, in fact it boasts a gorgeous marina, plenty of eateries and shops in its busy town centre and plenty of annual events and festivals ideal for adding some excitement to your trip.

Soak up some history:

Learn a little about Turkey’s history and most important cultural achievements by booking a trip for July and enjoying the Baris Suyu Turkish Culture and Tourism Festival nearby Bodrum. Thousands gather to celebrate this festival and enjoy the performances and spectacle of this popular three-day event.

Race at the Regatta:

Book October flights to Turkey in 2012 for the chance to take part in the fabulous Bodrum Cup Wooden Yacht Regatta. As the only wooden boat Regatta in Europe where passengers can be on board for the race – and even help crew the ships – this is an excellent opportunity to really test your sea legs.

Explore the Deep:

If you’re a fan of diving, there’s no better time to visit Bodum than in May, when the annual diving festival takes place. Run by the Bodrum Underwater Society, this celebration blends hands on experiences with the chance to enjoy historic exhibits of diving gear from days gone by.

Indulge a Sweet Tooth:

Pick a holiday that will allow you to eat as much candy as you can possibly manage by visiting Bodrum during October and taking part in Seker Bayram – also known as the Candy Festival. This marks the end of Ramadan, and you can expect to enjoy plenty of feasting and a lot of sweeties during the daytime.

Party with the Locals:

Also in July, and running into the beginning of August, is the Bodrum Festival so expect flights to Bodrum to be high in the weeks beforehand and surrounding. While more modest than some of the grand celebrations in Ankara or Istanbul, it’s a wonderful chance to see what makes Bodrum so special. Staged at the castle, you’ll have the chance to celebrate with locals and visitors alike while enjoying lavish performances and traditional fare.
