Traditional Turkish Breakfast

Breakfast in Turkey

English Breakfast Bodrum TurkeyDon’t Stick to What you Know

When you’re on holiday in a new destination, it’s easy to fall into patterns of behaviour, and stick with the familiar.

Take a look at the Costa’s in Spain – rows of oceanfront cafe’s advertising Full English Breakfast and Fish and Chips.

If you visit Turgurtreis and wander past the mosque into the labyrinth of streets selling tourist trinkets and clothes, you’ll come across a street that is packed with restaurants selling English food.

Signs touting “Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Beans, Chips and Toast” vie for your attention.  Gumbet has a similar selection of English restaurants.

Now I’m not adverse to the occasional plate of beans on toast, but when I go on holiday, I want to sample the local fayre.  There’s nothing better than a hearty breafast to set you up for the day – but it doesn’t have to be a “Full English”.  How about trying a traditional Turkish Breakfast instead.

So what does a Turkish Breakfast look like?

Breakfast in TurkeyYou’re in for a treat.

Staples in a Turkish breakfast include, bread, cheese, olives, eggs, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs, jam and copious amounts of tea.

Eggs usually come baked, fried or boiled, and if only one cheese is served it’ll be white, crumbly and salty.  The tomatoes will be full of flavour, and if you’re lucky, the perserves for the bread, will be locally made.

Choose your breakfast wisely.  It’ll set you up for the day!
