Mike’s Top 5 picks for Gümüşlük

Guest Blogger Logo from Roving JayToday’s Top 5 Picks is from Mike who I discovered on Trip Advisor.  Turkey is by far his favourite foreign destination, and he avoids commercial tours in favour of private touring (sometimes self-guided, sometimes with a local driver/guide.)

All in all, he’s traveled for about seven months within Turkey, and this year he spent about a month in the East and traveling along the Southern border from Mardin to Bodrum.

Mike’s Top 5 include picks about Gümüşlük and the surrounding area, the proverbial pot of gold at the end of his touring rainbow.

Snorkeling: PERFECT snorkeling among submerged ruins in clear, calm, blue sea.

Beaches: GREAT beaches that are usually small, private and take some effort to reach.

Archaeology: EXCEPTIONAL opportunity for archaeologic discovery as you see evidence of human shaping of building on the land everywhere, and begin to see the entire area as a terraced city.

Hiking: WONDERFUL hiking for all–almost mountain climbing in parts–with exquisite views from all directions.

Shopping: FINE shopping and dining in the craft bazaar and seaside restaurants.

And to wrap up this summary of the local area, I’ve included a link which shows you a Panoramic view of Gümüşlük.

  1. Getting lost doesn’t bother him, and he has a knack of finding special places well away from the typical tourist sites.
