Welcome to the Bodrum Peninsula

Bodrum is enjoying a growing reputation. Turks themselves see it as the ideal place for a holiday break, and people from all over Europe and beyond are joining them, enjoying the warm weather and attractions that the Bodrum Peninsula has to offer.

But what is there to actually see and do in Bodrum? Why is it becoming such a hugely popular location and what separates it from other areas of Turkey?

Bodrum Nightlife TurkeyDowntown Fun

Downtown Bodrum is a party town. During the summer months, the town literally never sleeps with its bars, clubs, pubs and shows rocking well into the early hours of the morning and beyond in some cases.

Bar Street is the original name given to the street where the majority of the bars are found and are openly catering for young crowds looking for a good time. With the castle illuminated in the background, you can enjoy a few beers here and really let you hair down.

When in Bodrum, you should at least take a stroll along Bar Street to at least see what the fuss is about even if partying isn’t really your thing anymore!  Nearby Gumbet is fast catching up on the rowdiness scene though – perhaps even overtaking it on the ‘fun’ scale!

Bitez was once known as the hidden gem of the peninsular, however in recent times the area has been found by more and more tourists. Its main claim to fame is its reputation as being the perfect location for a bit of wind surfing.

Bitez is the ideal location for all other water sports too, with sails, surfboards and boats along the coastline a common and thrilling sight. The seas here are also perfect for young families as they are clear, calm and warm and the restaurants which line the beaches offer excellent meals from around the world too.

The scenic and quiet village of Gümüşlük is one of the peninsula’s oldest settlements and is famed for its stunningly fresh fish based cuisine.

The village is heavily reliant on the fishing industry and if you wander into one of the many small local restaurants you can try your favourite local fish dish fresher than you ever have had it before. There are many local specialities you can try – stuffed squash flowers and sea beans are Aegean Sea favourites that are worth a taste too.

Summary

The Bodrum Peninsula is a very diverse part of Turkey that attracts a range of different visitors. From backpackers looking to explore the culture of Turkey to families on Turkey holidays, Bodrum has the places of historical interest, bars and clubs and beautiful beach-side restaurants to cater for all tastes. When on your visit, make sure you experience all that Bodrum has to offer or you will live to regret it!

  1. I like the sound of enjoying a quiet dinner in Gumusluk versus a party time in Bodrum. But I guess that’s the beauty of the Bodrum area — that there’s something for everyone’s taste.
