Welcome to the Best of Akyarlar

Akyarlar Bodrum Peninsula Turkey

Introduction to Akyarlar

Akyarlar is in the often overlooked south-western corner of the Bodrum Peninsula, and is due south of Turgutreis (it's also part of the Turgutreis Municipality).

It's a little off the beaten track, and if you fancy a day away from the mass of tourists that converge in Bodrum and Turgutreis, head to this corner of the Peninsula to get a slice of Turkish market-town life.

Akyarlar has a secluded bay, with a birds eye view of the tip of Kos. The first time I visited Akyarlar, was during a road trip around the Peninsula, and it makes a great stopping off point. The bay has a selection of restaurants and cafes, and there's a small beach with loungers, as well as a small harbour jetty where you can take a day boats around this part of the coastline.

Akyarlar is also a anchor-stop, on day boats from Turgutreis taking the southern tour, and we stopped here for afternoon tea and cake during our trip.

In the afternoons, this part of the Peninsula can get decidedly windy, so if you're taking a boat trip, remember to bring something to cover up with.
