Today’s “Waxing Lyrical” Top 5 is a guest post from Paul at Pure Tourism.  From his last article, Top 4 places to Windsurf on the Bodrum Peninsula, we know that Kadikalesi is one of the best places to learn to windsurf.  It’s a safe environment to learn windsurfing, because there isn’t a lot of other traffic in the water.  Head there in the mornings, because in the afternoon the wind can pick up and be too strong for beginners.

Now that we know where to windsurf, Paul’s sharing his experitise on how to begin your windsurfing adventure.  These Top 5 tips are aimed at beginner level, and will get you riding the waves of Kadikalesi in no time.

Windsurfing Tips for Beginners:

Look up and you’ll Stay up!

Always look up, and do not look at your feet! Your head weighs 30% of your body weight and massively effects your balance.

Arms Straight, Knees Bent!

Keep your arms straight and knees bent when doing your beginner turns (180 degree turn).

By keeping your arms straight it will help the board turn with minimal effort. Knees bent will help you keep your balance and acts as your suspension.

Keep everything Comfortable!

Arms and legs should be no wider than shoulder width, this helps with the trim of your board and your sail.

Back Straight!

By keeping your back straight you will use your body weight to resist the power of the sail.

Hand above your head!

By putting your hand above your head, you’ll stop the mast from falling on your precious head!
