Fishing Trips

Even though the Bodrum Peninsula is surrounded by water on three sides, it’s surprising how little sport or recreational fishing opportunities there are available.

If you’re an avid angler, and fancy a chuck (for those of us not in the “Reel” world – that’s a cast!) you don’t actually have a lot of venue choices.

Actually, you’re limited to one.

Destination Torba

Most of the excursion companies around the Peninsula offer “Fishing Trips”, but the only location available is Torba.

The cost of your trip includes transport to and from Torba fishing harbour, and you’ll be shuttled back and forth by the skipper or one of his deck hands.

You’ll need to be at the designated pick up point early in the morning, so that means you’ll have to book your trip at least the day before.

The Bros goes Fishing

I dropped off Red and his brother in Yalikavak for their fishing excursion.  Luckily neither of them had high expectations – so they weren’t disappointed by their day out.

The fishing trip consisted on a full day out on the boat, with a couple of swimming stops; basic lunch and equipment were supplied; and their boat trip consisted of fisher-folk and sun worshippers.

This is by no means a sports fishing excursion, it was more of a relaxing day, aimed at the part-time or novice angler. But if you are hankering for a little bit of aquatic “Man vs. Wild” – this trip could be for you.

I was wandering around Torba a couple of days later, and came across the flyer for another fishing boat called the “Karianda” posted on a lamp post along Ataturk Caddesi. So if you’re in the neighbourhood, you can wander down the the fishing boat harbour and book directly.

Location

The fishing boat harbour is located on the western side of Torba Bay.  From the Voyage Resort and beach, walk north along Ataturk Caddesi past all of the small hotels, restaurants and jetties until you reach the fishing boat harbour.  Here you’ll find the fishing boat offering day trips, along with a large collection of boats operated by the local fisherman.
