Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of Zeki Müren before, I hadn’t either!  But then Jack Scott included a Museum I hadn’t heard of in his Top 5 list, and that inspired me to go on a fact finding mission.  Here’s what I found out:

Zeki Müren was a prominent Turkish singer, composer and actor. He was famous for his compelling voice, and precise articulation in his singing of both established Turkish classical music and contemporary songs.  You’ll find a lot of live footage of his performances on You Tube.

Home in Bodrum

The last home of Turkey’s deceased favorite singer is now a museum. Worshipped much like Elvis Presley, Zeki Müren was a giant of the Turkish music scene.

His death caused the greatest public grief in years and thousands of Turks attended his funeral.

Converted to a Museum

Zeki Müren’s house was converted into an Art Museum in June 8, 2000, and attracts a continual stream of visitors each year.

If you’ve have your fill of dusty relics and building from ancient times, why not get off the beaten track and get a slice of glamour at the Zeki Müren Museum.
